What is a Fat Quarter?

In the quilting world, a fat quarter is a piece of fabric measuring approximately 18” x 22”, essentially a quarter yard of fabric measured so that the piece is more useable than a 9” x 44” section. Quilters like fat quarters because they expand the artist's palette of fabric choices when designing an art or utility quilt.
